Atma is a three-bedroom apartment of 115 m² in Stupa Hills, a gated residential development on the hillside, a five-minute walk from the Stupa of Enlightenment. It sleeps up to six people and looks out over the Mediterranean on one side and the mountains on the other.
The terrace is 101 m², almost as much space again as the apartment itself, and it faces the sea. That is where you will spend most of your stay.
The living space is open plan and bright, and it leads out to a terrace facing the sea. The kitchen is fully equipped, there are two bathrooms, and the main bedroom opens straight onto its own private terrace.
Stupa Hills is gated, with landscaped gardens, an outdoor pool, an indoor spa with a sauna and a Turkish bath, and a gym. Parking is free and covered, in the same building. The old village of Benalmádena Pueblo is within walking distance.
The terrace
The terrace measures 101 m², nearly as much as the apartment inside. It runs along the front under a deep covered roof, so it works in the middle of August and in December alike. There is a dining table for six and a separate seating area, and the view runs from the hillside down to the Mediterranean.
The living room and the main bedroom both open straight onto it.
Living room and kitchen
The living space is open plan: sofa, dining table and a kitchen behind a breakfast bar, with the sliding doors to the terrace at one end.
The kitchen is open plan and fully equipped: induction hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle and toaster, with crockery and cooking utensils. A door leads through to a utility patio with a washing machine and a tumble dryer.
Three bedrooms
The main bedroom has a double bed, a television and its own doors onto the sea-view terrace. The second bedroom is also a double, with access to a terrace of its own, and the third has two single beds.
All three have fitted wardrobes, air conditioning and heating. Bed linen and towels are included.
Two bathrooms
The main bathroom has twin basins and a bathtub with a shower over it. The second has a walk-in shower, and there is a toilet off the hallway for guests.
Towels are provided, and the apartment is cleaned with eco-friendly products.
Pool, spa and gym
Stupa Hills is a gated development, and guests use its facilities. There is an outdoor pool in the gardens below the building, and indoors a spa with a heated pool, a sauna and a Turkish bath.
There is also a gym, and a private covered parking space in the same building. All of it is a lift ride away, which is the part that matters in August.

Why Atma
Atma is Sanskrit for soul, or the inner self. We chose it because of the neighbour: a Buddhist monument built as a place for calm and reflection, five minutes on foot from the door.
It also says something about where you are staying. This is the hillside above Benalmádena, with the old village and a 33-metre stupa for company, rather than the strip of hotels along the beach.
Living by the Stupa
The Stupa of Enlightenment is a Tibetan Buddhist monument, 33 metres tall and opened in October 2003. It is the largest stupa in the Western world, and it stands on a slope of the Sierra de Mijas, so the platform around it looks straight out over the coast.
Its gold spire can be seen from far along the shoreline, which makes it an easy landmark when you are finding your way back. Inside there is a meditation hall, painted with scenes from the life of the Buddha.

A tropical butterfly house next to the Stupa, also a five-minute walk away. A good visit with children or on a hot afternoon.
Colomares Castle
A castle-style monument to Christopher Columbus, a short distance from the Stupa.

Puerto Marina and the beaches
Down on the coast: the marina, the seafront promenade and the beaches of Benalmádena Costa.

By train
The C-1 local train runs from Málaga Airport towards Fuengirola and stops at Benalmádena-Arroyo de la Miel. From the station, local bus 103 goes up to the stop called Stupa Tibetana, five minutes on foot from the apartment. A taxi is the other option.
By car
